
The 2025 IFTA Summer Tour will be visiting a broad swath of southern Ontario’s tree fruit orchards and operations July 20-23, from Harrow to London to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Orchard visits include many high-density orchards of apples (sweet and cider), peaches, and pears (European and Asian), as well as some cherries and strawberries, and a leading tissue culture lab and nursery that produces hundreds of thousands of apple, cherry, pear, and stone fruit rootstocks (as well as grapes and strawberries).
Progressive Ontario growers will be discussing their experiences with various types of hail nets (including whole orchard, row-by-row, and roll-up systems), cement posts, irrigation sensors and management, Vivid Machines and Provide Agro HSS smart sprayers, homemade orchard platforms, potted nursery trees, leaf blowing, root pruning, reflective mulches, fertigation, mushroom compost, sap nutrient analysis, super spindle/Tall spindle/planar multi-leader trellised orchards and more.
Two Ontario research centers will be visited to learn about their programs for breeding of apples, peaches, and pears, fireblight resistance and management, sensory evaluation, and Canada’s Genebank for preservation of valuable tree fruit genetics.
Farm markets, craft cider producers, and a winery will also round out the tour highlights.
